Irrigation Cable is used in direct burial applications for wiring of central control systems, field controls, and solenoid valves. The primary installations include connection of solenoid valves with controllers on residential or commercial, electrically controlled irrigation systems. Irrigation Cable is listed for direct burial and may be used at temperatures not to exceed 60°C. Voltage for all applications is 30 volts. Although it’s buried under the earth, the irrigation wire is a key component of irrigation systems. The quality of the wire can impact performance. As systems continue to get more intelligent, quality wire becomes a more important factor.

NEC Article 300
These cables are designed for underground applications where harsh conditions may be encountered. The scope of this article covers applying to the electrical and mechanical requirements for the various methods of installing fixed electrical conductors for electric light, heat, power, and certain signal system, to all wiring installations, except for remote-control, including low voltage rely switching, low energy power and signal systems as provided in Article 725, and communication systems as provided in Article 800. On premises where a continuous underground metallic water-piping network system is not available as a grounding electrode, and where it is not practicable otherwise to secure a ground of permanently low resistance, the use of a wiring method which does not employ metal enclosures for the wires is recommended, unless the character or occupancy of the building is such as to require the use of a metal-enclosed wiring system. This Article is not intended to apply to the conductors which form an integral part of equipment such as motors, motor controllers and the like.
